DROP FAB - Inspiration
The DROPFAB project is an open source, off grid, low-cost shipping container workshop that has the capabilities of a small makerspace + clean assembly booth. A one stop shop for creating and building 100’s of open source projects and small satellites.
DROP FAB - OUR SOLUTION
Providing a radical democratization of STEM teaching and tools for developing nations and the UK’s economically abandoned regions.
drop fab - local makers
Our experience with the open source movement has taught us that many projects for developing nations have been released. Unfortunately the manufacture and engagement opportunities of many of these projects can sometimes exclude their intended audience.
The DROPFAB is a reaction to this. The containers can be transported anywhere in the world, accompanied by an educator & workshop technician to teach local people how to use, maintain and upgrade the workshop independently.

The DROPFAB space is also a showcase of what the OSHW movement has already achieved as almost all of the tools included are products of this same movement.
This selection does not only provide inspiration, but also: Replicability, extreme cost effectiveness, large supportive maker communities, location specific bills of materials and alternative constructions removing its users reliance on international supply chains.

“Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.”
We would like to add…
“Teach him how to make a fishing rod, and you can feed the whole village”.
